The spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we become. – Henry Martyn

It’s easy to forget that the Lord who knows everything about us also knows what’s best for us. He knows when and if to change course in our lives so that his purposes can be accomplished in his timing. This not only reveals his sovereignty, but his intimate love intricately woven in and through the lives of his people, reaching out to those who do not know him.

One of my plans this week was to meet up with a contact in a nearby town. However, my schedule was essentially rewritten when my dog began to have problems going to the bathroom. She didn’t seem lethargic or feverish, but after I saw a little blood on her fur after she eliminated, my family knew she would have to visit the vet.

The next day, the day I would have been about fifteen miles away visiting my contact, I was in the vet’s office with my super-greedy corgi who couldn’t wait to get a treat from the vet whom she had been seeing since she was a puppy. She certainly didn’t seem sick. A quick check-over by the vet revealed she was fine. I guess she just wanted a treat and a car ride 🙂

We started to share small talk about how my family’s health had been. Our vet began to share about some friends’ deaths she had experienced recently and how she had helped both friends in their final years. She talked to us for a long time, and it seemed like she needed to share about what had been going on in her life. The great thing about this is, now we know how to pray for her in regards to her needs. It was also a timely reminder to pray for her salvation.

God knew that my vet needed to talk with someone about her losses, and he wanted to put my family in the position to listen to her needs and pray for her. We would have never known her needs if my dog didn’t begin to experience problems. God’s plans are always best.
